Taranaki Equestrian Network Inc. (TEN) is fuelled by dedicated equestrians passionate about increasing riding places for all equestrians in the Taranaki rohe. We liaise constructively with district and regional councils to have horse-riding included in every possible public green space. We continue to build successful partnerships with local bodies making Taranaki a significant equestrian attraction and the equestrian lifestyle region of choice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Bridle Zone Update: From August 2026 until "early September" 2026 (date to be advised), the road into the Bridle Zone is CLOSED from MONDAY TO FRIDAY 7am to 5pm. It is open ONLY on the WEEKENDS. The closure is for maintenance works to improve the lake, the fish and our city water. If you see a large orange sign at the road entrance, you will need to turn around and leave. There is another closure "late October". We will update riders on this as soon as we know more. 
Closure 1-2pm Saturday 12 Sept - Athletics event. Course prep is from 10am to 1pm  so ride but be careful.

2024 road safety campaign reveals extensive loss of riding places.​

For a powerful overview of how badly horses are being EXCLUDED from riding areas all around Aotearoa, read the Unity-Kotahitanga article. TEN has joined Pass Wide & Slow New Zealand to support strengthened and determined advocacy on behalf of all equestrians. This includes roads, trails and beaches - all the awesome, natural, green spaces where we love to ride our hōiho.​

The long awaited Taranaki Equestrian Facilities Plan has been released! It's the development foundation for our A&P grounds, pony club grounds, and open space riding areas for the next 50 years.

New jumps at Lake Mangamahoe

Look at the cute log jumps recently built at the Lake Mangamahoe Bridle Zone (TEN's pride &joy).

Horsey signs on horsey roads

This has been a big success for TEN. NPDC were great to work with on this. We hope it makes drivers more conscious of their speed as they pass our ridden horses.

​​TEN has been out fighting for your rural riding verges

They started grading the verges off steeply at Lower Timaru Rd and met Joanne Huitema. Then started on Smart Rd and met Megan Gundesen. Horrified by the damage to our green footpath, we managed to stop Downers work. Many meetings later, we have a pact that 'horsey roads' will keep their green footpaths at a 3% camber for 1m-where possible. A real win for all who depend on road rides for fitness.

​​TEN is trying to reduce vehicle speed on local rural roads 

We are working with NPDC to achieve this! Trying as hard as we can to get motorists to reduce their speed on local rural roads. We did the NPDC survey in June 2021 and there will be another one later this year.
